Ferro Silicon is an alloy primarily composed of Iron and Silicon, with a Silicon content ranging from 70% to 80%. It’s a crucial component in the Steel and Cast Iron Industries, acting as both a deoxidizer and an alloying agent. Ferro Silicon is also used in other processes like the manufacture of Silicon Steel and certain pre-alloys.

Key Uses of Ferro Silicon:

Steel Production:

Deoxidation: Ferro-Silicon effectively removes oxygen from molten steel, preventing porosity and improving steel quality.

Alloying: It is added to steel to enhance properties like tensile strength, hardness, and hardenability.

Improved Electrical and Magnetic Properties: Ferro Silicon is used in electrical steel production due to its beneficial electrical and magnetic properties.

Cast Iron Production:

Inoculation: Ferro Silicon accelerates the graphitization process in cast iron, improving its microstructure and mechanical properties.

Silicon Content Control: It helps regulate the initial silicon content in Cast Iron

Other Applications:

Manufacture of Pre-alloys: Ferro-silicon is a base material for pre-alloys like Magnesium Ferrosilicon, used in the production of Ductile Iron.

Heavy Media Separation: Used in the metallurgical industry for various processes.

Source of Silicon: Used as a source of silicon in the electric industry and for the production of silicon steel.
